- Food and beverage minimums
- Many venues charge little or no rental but require you to spend a set amount on catering and bar. Compare venues on minimum spend, never on rental fee.
- Service charge and admin fees
- Commonly 18-24% on top of food and beverage, and sometimes on rental too. This is not gratuity and it is not optional - ask for it as a number, not a percentage.
- What is genuinely included
- Tables, chairs, linens, china, staffing, setup and strike, and a coordinator are each worth $500-$3,000 if you have to rent them separately. A more expensive venue that includes them is often cheaper overall.
